James Smith IV brings three decades of transformative leadership in education and nonprofit management. His career has been defined by an unwavering commitment to educational equity and community empowerment. Starting as a classroom teacher in underserved communities, James witnessed firsthand the systemic barriers that prevent talented students from reaching their potential. This experience inspired him to found 134 Hut Corp and create a comprehensive model that combines academic excellence with holistic support services.
From struggling reader to college-bound scholar. Maria joined our tutoring program in 3rd grade. With consistent mentorship and academic support, she improved her reading level by 3 grades in one year. Now in 8th grade, Maria maintains a 4.0 GPA and dreams of becoming a teacher.
First in his family to attend college. DeShawn participated in our mentorship program for 5 years. His mentor, a software engineer, guided him through high school and helped him secure a full scholarship to a top university. He's now studying computer science.
From foster care to leadership. Aisha joined our programs at age 12 after entering the foster care system. Our comprehensive support helped her navigate trauma and build resilience. She's now a peer mentor helping other students in similar situations.
